  • The history of name "ALIAKMON", in the H.N begins with the Minesweeper, one of the forth-English piscatorial 'Mersey' type which were bought by the Hellenic Government in 1938 and adapted. The second one, which used this name, is the Landing l-104. It was been taken from U.K at 1-5-47 by the Great Lieutenant D.Theodorou and arrivaled in Greece at 2-6-47. It was intensively used for military and national carries at the first antebellum years, but also in trainings. It was surrender at the B.N in 1969. This little ship of backing "SAARBURG" was launched at 1 March of 1966 in the dockyard BLOM and VOSS at the Ambourg. In the Spring of 1976 placed among the G. N. In May of 1994 it was decommissioned and raced Hellenic flag at the Naval station of Grete. It was named H.S ALIAKMON with number A-470. H.S. ALIAKMON (T.S. SAARBURG) is a General Support ship, type LUNEBERG. H.S. ALIAKMON, H.S. AXIOS and H.S. PROMITHEFS form the General Support Ship Squadron. H.S. ALIAKMON was lain in Blohm and Voss shipyards, in Hamburg, in 1969. It was donated to Hellenic Naνy by the German Νaνy on the 19th October of 1994, as a gesture of friendship towards an allied country. Ιt was named after a Greek river called ALIAKMON. The river ALIAKMON is one of the largest rivers of Macedonia. It has a length of 279 Κm. It derives the mount VΟΙΟΝ and ends in the bay of THERMAIKOS, 20 Km southwest of AXIOS river. The greatest width of the river is 120 m and the depth of the water reaches 1,5 m. The ancient Macedonians worshiped rivers as Gods. Most belieνed that the river ALIAKMON was a son of OCEANOS and TITHIS, a concept conceived by ISIODOS. Some others though that it was a son of PALAISTAINE. The mission of H.S. ALIAΚMON is to provide with support other warship units (Frigates, Patrol boats etc). As a result, these units are able to maintain operation tasks far from their shore-bases. In order to carry out its mission, she carries a load of 1.500 tons of various materials. H.S. ALIAΚMON is able to supply the following: Fuel Ammunitions, Torpedoes, Missiles Potable Water Spare Parts Medical Treatment Consuming goods She can deliver these materials, either underway or anchored, due to its up to date means of transport. H.S. ALIAΚMON can also function as a command ship, due to its high communication capabilities. For self-defence H.S. ALIAKMON is equipped with two (2) twin guns of 40 mm and two (2) twin antiaircraft guns of 20 mm type RHEINMETAL.
