Built by the New York Shipbuilding Corp. She was launched on Juyly 29th 1961 and commissioned to the U.S. Navy on December the 15th 1962. One of four ships of this class in the Hellenic Navy (THEMISTOKLIS, KIMON, NEARCHOS and FORMION). The Greek Flag was hoisted on October 1st 1992 in San Diego California, (her first CO. was Lt Cdr D.Goussis HN), at the same time as on FORMION. THEMISTOKLIS arrived in Greece on January 12th 1993. In commission (2001).
