Built by the Avondale Marine Ways Inc. Shipyard. She was launched on May 20th 1961 and commissioned to the U.S. Navy on December 10th 1962. Four ships of this class (THEMISTOKLIS, KIMON, NEARCHOS and FORMION) were transferred on loan as part of the defense agreement between Greece and the U.S.A. (July the 8th 1990). The Greek Flag was hoisted on 12th September 1991 and Cdr Dim. Kallergis HN was her first CO. She arrived in Greece on 27th of May 1992. In commission (2001).
