HS TOXOTIS


One out of six of the same type that were purchased from Norwegian Shipbuilding in Mandal, Norway. The others are: HNIOCHOS, KASTOR, ANDROMEDA, PHGASOS and KYKNOS. It was shipbuilted in 1966-67. The Greek Flag was raised on the 31th of May 1966 by its first CO , Lt N. Betsis HN. These ships, which constituted the first Fleet of Patrol Boats of Hellenic Navy, were the first ships that constructed, after WWII, by Hellenic Navy and the cost was upon the Greek Government. It was tranfered in Greece with NAFKRATOYSA

CREST H/S KRATEOS

The Crest of HS KRATEOS contains both the ship herself,while underway with full speed ahead and various islands of the Aegean Sea,thus describing her main task which is to safeguard the territorial integrity and the national interests of Greece.

HISTORY

The gunboat KRATEOS is the fourth ship in Hellenic Navy of Class OSPREY 56A, completely Greek designed and shipbuilt in Hellenic Shipyards SA ( Scaramanga ) on October 20, 2005.
Since her commission has assumed a series of missions, mainly in the Eastern Aegean Sea and has participated in many operational enhancement exercises of the Hellenic fleet.
Apart from operational deployments, it has also participated in ceremonial events (Liberation Lesvos, Chios) and in other missions such as provision of medical services on remote islands of Aegean Sea.
The first Commanding Officer of H / S KRATEOS was Lieutenant Commander E.. KYRIAKIDIS HN,and on that time the Executive Officer was Lieutenant Junior Grade K. Choutos and the Mechanical Engineer Officer was Lieutenant Junior Grade (M) N. MICHAS HN.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

 Patrol Boat DIOPOS ANTONIOU (Ρ – 286) has been built in the ship yards “CHANTIERS NAVALS DE L’ ESTEREL” in Cannes of France in 1975.
 It belongs to the Fast Patrol Boats (F. P. B.) type “ESTEREL”.
 It was launched in 13-11-1975 and after being tested was delivered to Hellenic Navy in 04-12-1975.
 Date of departure from France: 15-12-1975.
 Date of arrival in Greece: 24-12-1975.
 The ship named after Corporal Antoniou who was killed on duty in Destroyer ADRIAS which was attacked by torpedoes in Catania, Sicily in 1943.
