Built by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation and launched on December 9th 1961. Commissioned in the U.S. Navy on April 20th 1963. One of four similar class in the Hellenic Navy. The hoisting of the Greek Flag took place on October 1st 1992 in San Diego, California and her first Commanding Officer was Cdr E. Ladas HN. She arrived in Greece on December 22nd 1992. Of the same class: KIMON, NEARCHOS and THEMISTOCLIS. In commission (2001).
