LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER (E) GEORGIOS TSILIBARIS

       He was born in Skripero village, Corfu island, Greece in 1961. He began playing music at his birth-town band along with conductor Konstantinos Tsilibaris. In the course of 1971-1979 he joined the “N. Mantzaros” band company.
       In 1980 he enlisted as a volunteer sailor to the Hellenic Navy Band. He continued his music studies in Athens and he completed theory at the Pindarion Musical Academy and clarinet at the Apolonion Musical Academy (a degree with excellence, unanimously).
       In the period of 1985-1987, he became a member of the Band and Orchestra of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Headquarters , based at Naples, Italy. There he attended classes at Naples Music School, also participating in the orchestra of “wooden instruments” of the school.
       In 1989, he became a member of “Piraeus Chorus” symphonic orchestra. In October 1999, he took over the duties of Band Master of Glyfada city band.
       In 2000, he was promoted to flag-bearer and in 2003 to sublieutenant. At these ranks he was in charge of D.N.E. and A.S. Music Classes
       Under his direction, in 2004 and 2005, a series of recordings were conducted at the Greek Public Television (E.P.T.) studios:recordings included two concerts of the Hellenic Navy Band performing works of Ionian composers and selections of Greek operettas, as well as Greek and foreign songs. In 2011, Greek songs were recorded under his direction for the needs of the SPECIAL OLYMPICS opening ceremony.
       In 2009, he was promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant (June 6th) and Leiutenant-commander (September 8th). On July 1st, 2010, he took over as the Band Master of the Hellenic Navy Band.
