HISTORY OF THE N.T.C

Since 1920 the need of monitoring the education had been understood and the follow-up of the education in the Central Pre-gymnasium of Poros and at the Academies that resided there had been assigned to the Vice-Admiral. In 1926 the Vice-Admiral was renamed Supervisor of Lower Naval Education and later Superior Director of Academies. In 1939 the Superior Administration of Academies was moved to the newly established then, Naval Fortress of Skaramagka. After the end of World War II and more specifically in 1944 when were judged necessary the rearrangement and the radical reformation of the system of Naval Education, the Superior Administration of Academies was replaced by the Headquarters of Naval Education with a Vice-Admiral as governor, the competences of whom were divided in the newly established training centres of PALASKAS and KANELLOPOULOS. The first years, the Headquarters of Naval Education were composed of the following Departments:

• Administration HNE

• Hellenic Naval Academy

• Academy of Artillery of PALASKAS and POROS

• Naval Tactic Training School

•  Educational Boats (R.B. ARMATOLOS and R.B. XATZIKONSTANTIS)

•  Training Centre for Landing Operations

•  Naval Recruiting Office of Piraeus

Its first mission was the preparation for war of its, then called, Royal Navy personnel, the follow-up and disposal of low-ranked personnel in Departments and Groups, the follow-up of the careers of the Permanent and Conscribable Personnel, the syntax of tables of reserve petty officer and apprentice seamen, the concern for the continuous supply of educational material in the depending departments for the achievement of their objectives and the education of foreign students.

Initially the Headquarters HNE when it replaced the SAF, it was accomodated in the new building at Skaramagka, and in 1959 was manufactured at small distance another building that served as Club of Officers and later as dormitory for Officers who were taking part in Schools of General Education at TC PAL .

In 1969 the service was renamed Command of Training and in 1970 Naval Training Command.

In 1999 due to the earthquake and the damages that suffered the already old building (it dates from 1938), a moving was judged necessary and thus the Club's old building became the second roof of the Department. The old building after repairs and reforms constituted the new building of the dormitories of the Naval Academy of Permanent Petty Officers after the final delimitation of its domains of competence inside the Camp KANELLOPOULOS in the region of Skaramagka.
